This this is awesome. I'll tell you what I use it for. -TimeMachine backups -My entire iTunes library is stored in there. With symbolic links I "tricked" iTunes to think music is stored locally. -My entire iPhoto library is stored in there. With symbolic links I "tricked" iPhoto to think photos are stored locally. -Movies storage which I can play from my TV over the network. That's it no extra cables!!! -I stream my music using their iPhone app over 3G or WiFi. So I always have all my music available on my iPhone without filling it up. -It has a wonderful web interface where you could: play music, copy files, download files, and configure it. It also provides mobile support. And that's only what I could write in three minutes... Also with their latest software version, you could set it up as a VPN server. So in theory if you are on the other side of the world, you could still stream your family movies over the network. Good buy

This NAS just works. It is simple to setup and works without any issues with my LinkSys Wireless-N network. It is FAST and all my files are accessible now from both Windows and Mac machines. The iTunes media server works like a charm; I copied all my music to this NAS and created a couple of play lists and they showed up in my iTunes player on my PC without a hitch. All in all, the beauty of this NAS device is that it just works. I highly recommend it.

Synology DiskStation 2-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage (DS213)

I am a long time IT veteran and have been around these types of devices for over a decade. I have got to say so far I am thoroughly impressed with this device. It was so simple to set-up I am convinced my 7 year old could do it without any help. For the money, I don't see anything comparative. The only thing I can think of it the Drobo line, but these are less expensive for sure. Get one of these with 2 3TB drives and you will have all of the back-up storage you need with the piece of mind that a mirrored drive provides. Watch the recommendations that Amazon make on this. I took their recommendation without paying attention and ended up ordering a 2 TB drive and a 3 TB drive, which in a mirrored disk system you are wasting a terabyte. For you techies it will let you present an iscsi LUN to your desktop which is a very cool feature that some of the big boy SAN's have. Overall great product for the price... so far only two weeks into it.

Western Digital My Book Live 2 TB Personal Cloud Storage Drive

consist of a Vista machine and Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit machines and a Mac OS X Lion. I have had zero problems with the My Book Live 2TB unit. The only problems I ran into were IP address conflicts on my network, which was an easy fix, and my router had timed out on me for some reason preventing the first Mac OS X Lion back up to complete. Once the router problem was fixed I was able to back up all my computers to the My Book Live 2TB drive. Very very easy. I really have had zero issues with this unit. I now, also, have the ability to access all of my files through this one drive on any of my computers, smart phones, iPad, and PS3 that are connected to my network. Very easy as well. It's great to have the ability to share our movies, pictures, and videos on our smart phones and PS3. Overall I really like the storage drive.

We bought this drive to hold all of our backups. We are a small business with several computers, point of sale terminals, and a back room system. All of them get backed up each night to this drive. We also backup databases and various files here during the day. It appears to be plenty fast, reliable, and quiet.
